Sauni (सौनी) is a mool in the Panji reference list. It is recorded under the Vatsa (वत्स) gotra.
A mool is a lineage named after a Maithil family’s ancestral village, for example Sarisaba, Sodarapura or Khandabala. Together with the gotra it is part of the family’s Panji identity. Like the gotra, it comes from the father.
मूल मैथिल परिवार के पूर्वजों के गाँव के नाम पर चलने वाली कुल-पहचान है, जैसे सरिसब, सोदरपुर या खण्डबला। गोत्र के साथ यह परिवार की पंजी-पहचान का हिस्सा है। गोत्र की तरह यह भी पिता से मिलता है।
